The Old Farmhouse
The 18th century farmhouse has been carefully renovated to provide a comfortable retreat that is full of character and retains many of its original features. One of the sitting rooms features an inglenook fireplace whilst the other has a wood burning stove and oak panelling. There are exposed oak beams throughout and all of the floors upstairs are varnished wood. Uniquely, the farmhouse is divided into two halves with separate staircases, each leading to two bedrooms. The sunny conservatory joins both halves, making this ideal for two families or a group of friends that may want some privacy during their stay.
The accommodation comprises:
* A very well equipped farmhouse kitchen with large handmade beech table seating eight, recycled wood welsh dresser, oil-fired Rayburn with hotplate and oven as well as an electric double oven, four ring cooker, microwave, fridge, dishwasher, Belfast sink, handmade units and a large larder/storage cupboard with 2 highchairs.
* The inglenook sitting room features a large open fireplace boasting toasting seats either side, three large comfy sofas, nice coffee tables, stereo CD and games.
The charming master bedroom has a five-foot double four poster bed, nooks and crannies and pleasing bedroom furniture.
* Across the large landing – complete with writing desk and comfortable armchair and footstool – is a warm and colourful bathroom with large cast iron bath.
* The attractive and quirky single bedroom also has space enough to unfold the zed bed or folding cot.
* Both sides of the house have glass doors that open onto the bright conservatory with cane furniture and a beautiful passion flower creeper.
* The oak-panelled TV sitting room has TV/DVD/video and a wood burning stove.
* The downstairs bathroom has a shower over the bath and heated towel rail.
* The utility room provides an additional kettle, microwave and fridge-freezer, washer/dryer and Victorian drying rail, Belfast sink and drainer. The modern oil burning boiler, which heats the house and hot water, makes this an ideal drying room, coats and boots room or just somewhere to dry the dog.
* There are two further delightful bedrooms with views over the countryside. One has a handmade beech five-foot double bed, the other has comfortable twin ‘zip and link’ beds.
Outside is a seating/dining area which leads to the mature garden, planted with a variety of trees and colourful bushes with little welsh poppies growing everywhere throughout the season; there is always something in flower and plenty of colour and scent.
At the bottom of the garden is the rustic summerhouse, converted from the old pig sty (though you wouldn’t know it), which has a free-standing hammock and other seating (Lloyd loom chairs gathered from second-hand shops) and is a perfect place to read, snooze or gather for a cup of tea or evening drink in the flower-perfumed atmosphere.
The garden curves all the way around the back of the house with more interesting trees and shrubs, some planted specifically to attract bees, birds and butterflies, and an old vegetable plot left to go to seed for the wildlife.
The Farmhouse and the owners second property, The Shippon can be jointly rented for a larger group at a discounted rate.
There is ample parking on the farmyard for a number of cars.
