The Wye Valley and the Vale of Usk are attractive areas on and around the England and Wales border, encompassing the Black Mountains, the lovely market towns of Monmouthshire and Abergavenny through to Chepstow on the banks of the River Severn and the sweeping Valleys around Newport .

The area is perfect for walking – with over 1,000 miles of footpaths for you to enjoy by foot. For those of you who prefer to explore on two wheels, there are loads of cycle paths and country lanes for you to discover too. If fishing is your thing then the Usk, the Wye and the Llandegfedd reservoir provide plentiful opportunities for a spot of angling. For those of you after something a bit different, try a days pony trekking through the Black Mountains and take in the stunning views and lovely surroundings.Walking

The Wye Valley has a rich industrial heritage, with the Industrial Landscape World Heritage Site situated near Abergavenny in Blaenavon. Visitors to the site can go underground with a miner and listen to true stories of the people who worked there. The town of Usk also has a full and interesting history, being considered one of the most important Roman sites in Wales.

Tredegar HouseThe region is literally crammed full of amazing castles! From Chepstow to Caldicot, Abergavenny to Penhow, some of Wales finest Castles can be explored whilst you’re in the area. Enjoy staged banquets and battles, and learn about the castles fascinating histories. A visit to Tredegar House is also a must – with stunning grounds and some lovely walks, the 17th Centuary mansion is perfect for a family picnic or a relaxing stroll. There is also a lovely little gift shop and a great cafe (the 'Brewhouse') where you can stop and get a well earned cup of tea!
