The Wye Valley and the Vale of Usk are attractive areas on and around the England and Wales border, encompassing the Black Mountains, the lovely market towns of Monmouthshire and Abergavenny through to Chepstow on the banks of the River Severn and the sweeping Valleys around Newport . The Usk and Wye rivers create a pathway through the hills, passing
through some of the most beautiful scenery in Wales - a great place to
take that relaxing break or energetic walking holiday in a charming rural cottage.
The area is perfect for walking – with over 1,000 miles of footpaths for you to enjoy by foot. For those of you who prefer to explore on two wheels, there are loads of cycle paths and country lanes for you to discover too. If fishing is your thing then the Usk, the Wye and the Llandegfedd reservoir provide plentiful opportunities for a spot of angling. For those of you after something a bit different, try a days pony trekking through the Black Mountains and take in the stunning views and lovely surroundings.
The Wye Valley has a rich industrial heritage, with the Industrial Landscape World Heritage Site situated near Abergavenny in Blaenavon. Visitors to the site can go underground with a miner and listen to true stories of the people who worked there. The town of Usk also has a full and interesting history, being considered one of the most important Roman sites in Wales.
Staying in the area is a great choice for those wanting to explore a bit of both England and Wales, and having your own space to come home and relax is fab - so why not stay in a Wye Vally cottage? A selection of images are © Crown Copyright (2007) Visit Wales |
