Famous for their rich industrial heritage, the South Wales Valleys are now becoming a popular holiday destination - with sweeping green hills, country parks and loads of great walks and cycle paths to explore.
Merthyr Tydfil, known as the 'Iron Capital of the World', documents its past at the Cyfarthfa Castle Museum and Art Gallery, set in 160 acres of parkland. The town is also home to Parry's Ironworks Cottage, depicting working class life in the 1840's, and Ynysfach Furnaces and Blast Engine House - as well as a whole host of other attractions, ensuring that there is something to please everyone!
For serious hiking fans - head for the hills above Bridgend and walk the Ridgeway Walk, or try the Sirhowy Valley walk leading you between Newport and Tredegar. A visit to one of the Valleys many country parks is also well worth it - try Bryngarw House and Country Park with its Oriental Garden and brilliant play area for the kids. |
